Course outline
Fundamentals
Free-surface versus pressurised flow, classification of regimes, review of Bernoulli and momentum.
02Flow regime

03Uniform flow
Chézy and Manning-Strickler, normal depth, channel design and the most efficient section.
04Channel geometry
Flow area, wetted perimeter, hydraulic radius and the usual sections: rectangular, trapezoidal, circular.
05Hydraulic jump
Specific force, Bélanger equation, energy loss and stilling basins.
06Gradually varied flow
The backwater equation, M, S, C, H and A profiles, and numerical integration methods.
07Hydraulic structures
